About Us: History of the Leaning Tower of Pizza

Construction on the Leaning Tower of Pisa began in A.D. 1173, but its legacy wasn’t complete for another 779 years when the Leaning Tower of Pizza Minneapolis opened its doors on A.D. 1952.

Whereas the Leaning Tower of Pisa is known for its classical architecture and famous tilt, we’re known for our Award Winning Pizza, delicious Sandwiches and Burgers, and the Best Garlic Cheese Bread in town!

When we moved to our current location in 1959, the Leaning Tower was one of only four places in Minneapolis where pizza was available. The price was moderate, with a large pizza ranging from $1.25 to $3.50.

Although prices have risen, our pizza remains the same. In a time where corners are cut in the name of “progress”, our recipe hasn’t changed since the day we opened.

We still make our own sauce, dough, and sausage, use only the freshest vegetables, herbs and spices, and top our pizza with 100% real cheese. Most other pizza establishments can not claim this standard.

Tradition and Quality – This is what the Leaning Tower is made of.
